Manchester's Association of Paranormal Investigation & Training : Est 1974.
MAPIT was first formed by Dr. David Reese in August of 1974 and was situated in Stockport UK. At that time MAPIT investigators only researched UFO incidents, hense its name being : Manchester's Aerial Phenomena Investigation Team. Dr.Reese ran the organisation until it was taken over by Stephen Mera in 1995. In 1996, Stephen re-formed the organisation to incorporate the scientific study of anomalous phenomena. A much wider range of phenomena investigated and researched. Subjects such as the paranormal and the supernatural. MAPIT became : Manchester's Anomalous Phenomena Investigation Team. In January of 2000 MAPIT went under another re-formation and changed its name to : Manchester's Association of Paranormal Investigators & Training. This change was brought about due to MAPITs work with Investigation & Training Programs & Courses. MAPIT started their training courses in September of 1996 and are still currently running. The British Investigators Training Course (BITC) is the most comprehensive & recognised course of its kind in the UK. MAPIT investigations take place throughout the United Kindom. MAPIT does not conduct many investigations of alleged haunted halls, stately homes or graveyards. MAPIT specialises in residential disturbances and corporate investigations.
In March of 1998 MAPIT launched the UPIA : Unknown Phenomena Investigation Association - MAPIT Cheshire Office which is situated in Congleton, Cheshire. UPIA is considered as a satellite organisation, and now have their own independence and association with SYPR - South Yorkshire Paranormal Research. In 1997 MAPIT also launched SEP, The Scientific Establishment of Parapsychology. SEP only investigate parapsychological subjects and submit their findings to numerous universities. SEP collate information and document scientific findings in hope of educating the general public and the media in regards to the study of parapsychology and in hope of advancing the subject.
Unknown Phenomena Investigation Association : Est 1998.
Covering the United Kingdom, The UPIA were founded in 1998 to research and investigate the large number of paranormal, UFOlogical and other strange reports emanating from the UK. The UPIA are at the forefront of paranormal and related research and investigation, and work closely with other leading associations. With much experience we are at the lead of modern protocols and proven techniques. The UPIA work in a neutral, realistic manner. We have no corporate views and do not promote our own beliefs. The UPIA are dedicated to research, training and education.
The Scientific Establishment of Parapsychology : Est 1997.
SEP investigate claims of Extra-Sensory Perception (ESP) abilities and Profound Human Exprieces (PHE). SEP research programs are constantly taking place. Any form of ESP can be tested, however, SEP's preliminary tests involve the testing of more common forms of ESP such as, Clairvoyance, Psychokinesis, and Telepathy. SEP recognises that certain cases require specialist help. To this end a close liaison has been built up with university departments, mental health experts and other similar establishments. This help is invaluable if a proper scientific evaluation of the more complex cases are to be made. SEP decries, on the one hand, the hard line sceptics who dismiss ESP abilities often without having studied a single case and on the other hand, the fervent cultist who have used the subject as a vehicle for simplistic religious doctrines. SEP occupies the middle ground. Something 'is' happening to thousands of people the world over, which is outside the normal order of things. That 'something' must be considered objectively and investigated scientifically. SEP submit data to numerous scientific departments throughout the world.
